School is out and kids everywhere are throwing on their swimsuits and heading out to the swimming pool for a fun afternoon in the sun. But is your swimming pool water safe for kids to swim?
Remember, kids can be more susceptible to the water in your swim pool compared to adults. The last thing you want is for a child to be hurt because of the quality of your swim spa’s water. If you are going to be hosting kids this year at your swim pool , then there are several things you need to do on a regular basis to ensure you water is safe for them to enjoy.
Check Your Filter
Before you allow children to swim in your swim spa, you should double check your swim spas filtration system. Make sure that the filter is clean and ready to do its job. If necessary, change the filter or clean it before you will have kids entering the water.
Clean Your Swimming Pool
Once you have checked your filter and it is ready to go, it is time to give the swim hot tub a good bath. Skim the water of all the loose debris and remove anything that has collected in the skimmer. Once that is done, go ahead and give the sides and bottom a good scrubbing to remove anything that could contaminate the water or attract the attention of a child swimming in the swim hot tub.
Adjust Your Chemicals
Once your pool has been cleaned, it is time to get started checking the chemical levels. There are several levels you will need to test for in your swimming pool:
Chlorine
pH Levels
Total Alkalinity
Calcium Hardness
All of these will impact the overall quality of your water so it is important to make sure they are all in the recommended ranges for your swimming pool.
