After comparing countless Hot Tub brands, you finally found the one you love. It probably took a lot of time and effort, didn't it?

But before you start unpacking and installing it, there's one important step you should never skip.

When your hot tub delivery arrives, take the time to inspect it first. A proper delivery inspection is the first step to making sure everything goes smoothly from the very beginning.

This guide covers 6 essential checks you should complete when your Hot Tub is delivered. The checklist includes four key areas: delivery inspection, moving and placement, electrical preparation, and pre-installation checks.

For every item, you'll learn why it matters, what could happen if you skip it, and the right way to do it. Follow the guide step by step, and you can save yourself a great deal of time, money, and trouble later on.

Hot Tub Delivery

1. Check the Packaging of Your Hot Tub Delivery

Why it matters:

If you've ever shopped online, you probably know that packages are not always handled with care. Most Hot Tub dealers work with reliable shipping companies because a Hot Tub is a large and valuable product.

Even so, its size makes it more likely to be bumped, squeezed, or dropped during transportation. Any of these can cause damage.

So, how do you know if your hot tub took a rough trip?

Start by checking the outer packaging. It is the first layer of protection for your Hot Tub. Based on my years of experience, large tears or heavy damage to the packaging often mean the Hot Tub inside may also be damaged. Serious shipping damage can affect not only the appearance of the Hot Tub but also its structural strength and waterproof performance.

What could happen if you skip this:

If you accept the delivery without checking the packaging, it may be difficult to prove that the damage happened during shipping. Later, the shipping company and the Hot Tub dealer may each claim the other is responsible.

As you can imagine, this can lead to a long claims process. In some cases, you may even have to pay for the repairs yourself.

What to do:

The good news is that you're reading this guide before your hot tub delivery.

While the delivery driver is still there, walk around the Hot Tub and carefully inspect the entire package. Take clear photos or record a video of every side. Look for dents, tears, water stains, or signs of impact.

Be sure to document the condition of the entire package, including the areas that look undamaged. Don't leave out any details.

If you find any damage, write "Packaging damaged, pending inspection" on the delivery receipt before signing. Ask the delivery driver to sign it as well, then contact the seller or manufacturer right away to discuss the next steps.

2. Verify Your Hot Tub Model and Specifications

Why it matters:

Once the packaging is removed, it's time to check the information on your Hot Tub. Carefully verify every model number, letter, and specification.

Receiving the wrong Hot Tub is rare, but it does happen. Sometimes the wrong model, color, or configuration is shipped. If you don't notice the mistake until after installation, returning or exchanging the unit can be very expensive.

What could happen if you skip this:

A different model may have a different number of jets, different features, different dimensions, or even a different power rating. That means it may not meet your expectations or fit your installation plan.

If you discover the mistake after the Hot Tub has been installed, you may have to disconnect it, move it, and return it. This takes time, costs money, and often requires extra labor for removal and reinstallation.

After all, you bought a Hot Tub to relax, not to spend your time arguing over a shipping mistake.

What to do:

When your hot tub delivery arrives, find the product nameplate or label on the Hot Tub. Check that the hot tub models number, specifications, color, voltage, and other product details exactly match your order.

Next, confirm that all parts and accessories are included. Check the number of jets, make sure the filter is installed, and verify that the insulated cover and any other ordered accessories are present.

If you find anything that doesn't match your order, contact the seller immediately. Do not begin the installation until the issue is resolved.

Take clear photos and record a video of the product label and nameplate. Keep them as proof in case you need to file a claim.

3. Inspect the Acrylic Surface and Cabinet Panels

Why it matters:

When you chose your Hot Tub, you probably spent a lot of time picking the color and style you liked. A great-looking Hot Tub is part of the experience.

The acrylic shell is strong, durable, and has a premium finish. However, long-distance shipping is never completely predictable. Road vibration, contact with hard objects, or accidental impacts can leave scratches, cracks, or chipped edges.

Don't forget to inspect the cabinet panels on the sides as well. They may look sturdy, but they can also be damaged during transportation.

What could happen if you skip this:

Scratches on the acrylic surface can affect the overall appearance of your Hot Tub. More importantly, small cracks can become bigger over time. They may allow water to leak into the unit, which can damage the internal structure and electrical components and create safety risks.

Chipped corners can also cause cuts or scratches during normal use.

The biggest problem is this: if you discover the damage after you have accepted the delivery, the seller may decide that it happened during installation or moving. In that case, your warranty claim or compensation request may be denied, and you could end up paying for the repairs yourself.

What to do:

After removing the packaging, take your time and inspect the entire Hot Tub. Run your hand over the acrylic surface, every edge, and the bottom of the unit. Pay extra attention to the four corners and the lower edges, as these areas are the most likely to be damaged during shipping.

Inspect the surface in natural daylight from different angles whenever possible. Many small scratches are difficult to see under indoor lighting but become much more visible in natural light.

If you find any scratches, cracks, dents, or other damage, take clear photos immediately and keep them as evidence. Contact the seller as soon as possible to discuss repair, replacement parts, or a replacement unit before moving forward with the installation.

4. Check All Hot Tub Parts and Accessories

Why it matters:

Most Hot Tub dealers include a variety of accessories with your purchase so you can get started as soon as possible. These may include extra filter cartridges, a water care starter kit, installation tools, and other useful items.

Missing accessories can delay the installation and affect your overall experience.

What could happen if you skip this:

If an important part is missing, you may not be able to install or use your Hot Tub right away. Even a small missing accessory can take weeks to arrive if it needs to be shipped separately.

If you don't check everything as soon as the Hot Tub is delivered, it may be difficult to prove that the item was missing from the original shipment.

What to do:

use the packing list to check every item one by one. Make sure all accessories are included, such as:

Filter cartridges

Insulated cover

Water care starter kit

Drain hose

Owner's manual

Warranty card

Installation tools

Inspect each accessory for damage as well.

If anything is missing or damaged, contact the seller immediately and request a replacement.

Keep all packaging materials for at least 30 days in case you need to return or exchange the Hot Tub.

Hot Tub Control

5. Inspect the Hot Tub Control Panel and Display

Why it matters:

The control panel is the "brain" of your Hot Tub. It controls the water temperature, massage jets, lighting, and many other functions. During transportation, vibration or impact can loosen the panel or damage the wiring inside.

What could happen if you skip this:

A damaged control panel may prevent you from adjusting the temperature, operating the jets, or even starting the heating system.

If you don't discover the problem until after Hot Tub Installation, the control panel may need to be removed for inspection or repair. This adds extra time, effort, and installation costs.

What to do:

When your hot tub delivery arrives, start with a visual inspection. Check the control panel housing for cracks, look for damage to the display, and make sure all buttons are in good condition.

If it can be done safely, temporarily connect the power supply with proper grounding and confirm that the display turns on and the buttons respond correctly.

Do not leave the Hot Tub powered on for an extended period before filling it with water. Running the system without water can damage the pump and heater.

If you notice any problems with the control panel, contact the manufacturer's technical support immediately.

6. Keep All Packaging Materials for at Least 30 Days

Why it matters:

Time is the best test. If your Hot Tub has a hidden quality issue, you may need to return or replace it during the warranty period. Keeping the original packaging is one of the most important requirements for safe transportation.

What could happen if you skip this:

If you discover a serious problem shortly after installation but have already thrown away the packaging, it may not be possible to ship the Hot Tub safely.

The manufacturer may refuse the return or replacement, or ask you to pay for new packaging.

Don't assume you can pack the Hot Tub yourself. Because it is large and heavy, improper packaging can cause even more damage during transportation.

What to do:

Ask the installation team to organize all of the packaging materials, including the cardboard boxes, foam inserts, wooden crate, and other protective materials.

Store everything in a dry place for at least 30 days. If possible, keep the packaging until your Hot Tub has been running normally for about a week.

Keep all labels and packing tape as well. Once you are sure the Hot Tub is working properly, you can safely dispose of the packaging materials.
