INKSTER, Michigan (KRON) — A 2-year-old boy has died after being left in a hot tub bathtub.

Now, the child’s mother is in police custody. Michigan police said the family called 911 after finding the boy.

But then, left the toddler in the scalding hot water. The boy’s mother was at home at the time, along with three other children and a neighbor.

The child was (submerged) in a bathtub, a hot tub bathtub upstairs. About three or four inches of water,” Inkster police Lt. Jeff Twardzik said.

Police said the boy had burns to 50 percent of his body.

Police said child protective services is involved with this family.

There have been some issues in the past with CPS where the children have been placed on basis where there was an investigation and they’d been put back in the home recently,” Twardzik said.

Now, investigators are looking into possibly filing charges against the mother.

She didn’t offer an explanation right away. My understanding is some of the children’s bedrooms are upstairs in the bungalow home,” Twardzik said.

To avoid accidents, ensure that children cannot use the Outdoor spaor indoor Spa unless they are supervised at all times. Make sure you always lock the cover after using your spa for children's safety.

Lower water temperatures are recommended for children. Children are especially sensitive to hot water.
